Our History, Philosophy, and Mission
A house is not a home until a puppy is home.
"It all started with a perfect little mini Schnauzer named Dutchess."
In 2012, on a family vacation to St. Maartin, we unexpectedly met our first dog at a local shelter, Dutchess, a sweet and intelligent 4-month-old Mini Schnauzer among a very rambunctious litter. Without knowing, Dutchess picked us to be her forever family. She was our first pup who gave us 6 beautiful healthy furry babies, of which we kept two (Madam and Knightly). After 12 amazing years of life with her, she passed in June of 2021. Later that same month, we were asked to shelter a litter of Sheepadoodle puppies, and the rest is history. Our years of experience fostering animals in need, nursing them to health and independently finding them homes, coupled with our experience with Dutchess and her litter brought us to doing what we love today: homing puppies full time.
Many dogs in shelters are there due to the discrepancies of breeding and pet shop businesses. If they're not sold "in time," puppies are sometimes turned over to shelters where they are put into stressful environments that are even harder to find homes in. At House of Dutchess, we stop that from happening to puppies. We board litters, care for them and find their future families. Our puppies are in a familial, home environment where they can grow mentally and physically without experiencing trauma and isolation.
Being in this close relationship with breeders helps us to keep accountability, and encourage responsibility according to the best practices of the trade, which makes us your go-to to find your furry baby.
